Feuer Lamas de Olo - Vorfeuer / Burnout Lamas de Olo

Der 2. Bürgermeister der Stadt Vila Real hatte das Team von @fire und die örtlichen Feuerwehren zum Empfang  ins Rathaus geladen, um sich für die Unterstützung durch die freiwilligen Einsatzkräfte aus Deutschland zu bedanken. Es wurde deutlich, wie viel den Bewohnern der Region die Unterstützung bedeutet.

The vice mayor of the city of Vila Real has invited the team of @fire and the local FDs to honour them for the ongoing work against the fires. Especially the help of the german team is greatly appreciated.

Kaum war die Zeremonie vorbei, klingelte das Handy des Einsatzleiters und das Team wurde alarmiert. Direkt auf dem Rathausvorplatz von Vila zogen die Männer von @fire ihre Schutzausrüstung an und schon ging es mit Blaulicht und Sirene wieder hoch in die Berge. Ein durch starken Wind erneut angefachtes Feuer war heftig aufgeflammt.

Directly after closing the ceremony the mobile phone of the incident commander reported a new start in the mountains. In front of city hall the team jumped in the gear and headed off to the fires code 3. Strong winds rekindled an old fire.

Hauptfeuer

Am Einsatzort wurde dem Team eine Spezialaufgabe zugeteilt: das Legen eines Vorfeuers, um ein trockenes Waldstück vor dem Feuer zu schützen.

Mit Flämmkanne und Handwerkzeug marschierte die Mannschaft los ins Gelände. Das Vorfeuer wurde in enger Abstimmung mit dem portugiesischen Einsatzleiter gelegt und zeigte schnell Wirkung.

Nachdem das Vorfeuer einen sicheren Bereich freigebrannt hatte, trat das Team in beginnender Dunkelheit den Heimweg an.

On scene the team was ordered for a burnout to prevent the fire entering an old pine stand. With drip torch and tools at hand the team made its way into the steep hillside. The burnout payed off in short time and after securing the edge the team returned to the city in beginning darkness.
